Grateful to mother Nature for blessing humanity with the lavender plant. Aside from its alluring scent and healing properties, the colour of the plant is in itself a tranquilizing hue. Lavender, a soft pale purple tone, possesses hints of light blue. Lavender evokes freshness, calmness, and elegance.
In the picture above, I am decked in a two-piece single-breasted lavender suit. A crisp white dress shirt held in place with a sleek navy blue textured tie lies right under the jacket. The suit is well fitted, the cuts are precise, and the fabric texture is smooth and satisfying.
For this look, I applied Conservative rule with some Complementary styling from my 4C framework.
Conservative styling is the foundation – it stays within safe boundaries where neutral colours and/or monochromatic tones take the stage. The colours neither compete nor are flashy. It presents a professional and polished silhouette, good for conventional office wear. While Complementary styling introduces neighbouring colours on the colour wheel – they blend and exhibit the same ‘colour temperature’.
The white shirt stays clean and unassuming, lying low to declutter the look – thus allowing the lavender’s soothing beauty to be revealed. While the navy blue tie complements lavender – both colours belong to the cool zone and blend well. The tie also exhibits a mild contrast with the white shirt.
The black leather shoes give the outfit an anchor at the bottom; it keeps the entire look balanced and professional.
Keeping the accessories simple is key. A gold-coloured wristwatch edifies the outfit, somewhat echoing the white shirt. The dark sunglasses and ring intentionally match the shoes, injecting just enough sophistication. The patterned pocket square has a pale neutral background intentionally set to match both the white shirt and lavender suit.
In the alternative image, a brown and yellow patterned tie introduces a lively, earthy charm into the suit. While the red and white pocket square is a refreshing pop of colour. Both the tie and pocket square inject a vibrant appeal into the otherwise cool-looking suit.
