The sheer nobility, authority, and confidence exuded by a black outfit is unmistakable the world over. Bureaucrats and upper class citizens have long adored black (and near-black) outfits for this reason. Not only is black gender-neutral, it is versatile.
A black suit with checkered patterns takes the refinement and elegance of black to another level. In the picture above, I am wearing a black double-breasted suit with a subtle windowpane (or glen plaid) checkered pattern. Styled with a pristine white dress shirt layered under the jacket, and a navy blue tie with gold polka dots to ensure a prim and proper balance. The suit exhibits a well-tailored and structured silhouette.
For this look, I have used the Conservative rule from my 4C framework.
The 4C framework is part of my curated colour styling lookbook for men. It is a comprehensive guide designed to help you understand colour relationships, and how to build your wardrobe with intention and visual harmony in mind. Learn how to build your outfits with purpose and clarity. From conservative foundations through complementary tones, contrasting matches, and finally bold outfits. Here, there are no competing colours – just safe combinations and a sharp silhouette.
The navy blue background of the tie brings in a slight coolness, and coordinates with the depth and neutrality of the black suit. The gold polka dots draws attention and injects some personality, somewhat tying back into the white.

The white dress shirt maintains a clean, respectable base that allows the suit and tie to shine, without cluttering the look.
Again, the red-and-white patterned pocket square introduces a slight pop of colour; it does not downplay or distract from the simple majesty of the suit. The white pattern naturally ties in with the white shirt. And finally, the black shoes keep the entire look grounded and polished.
The checkered black suit emphasizes more on structure. Nothing loud, just clean cuts and a professional look.
This outfit works perfectly for:
• High level & executive meetings
• Conferences
• Industry award nights
• Black-tie events
• Weddings
• Religious ceremonies
• Diplomatic and government functions
The suit is clearly a power suit.
Any event where authority and strong first impressions matter is the goal.
Stately and controlled, nothing loud. The precision cuts speak for themselves.
