Day7 : Real men wear pink! Xclusive’s 20 ways to style a pink suit for men

On Friday I shared a post about pastel (Pastel for Men)  that I hope was able to change your mind about the colors on the pastel spectrum. For this post I will be focusing on the pastel mid-tone – “PINK”.

Pink is one of those pastel tones that has been associated with the female gender over the years. A lot of men run away from it to avoid ‘condemnation’ from people and make weird statements like ‘it takes a bold man to wear man pink’. In my opinion, color has nothing to do with sexuality, it is just one of those baseless stereotypes we grew up with. But if you believe it, you’re honestly missing out big time. You need to correct that right now. How?

Let’s start with a simple pink blazer. I think a lot of men find this the most intimidating because they don’t know how to style it. I see many guys who only pair their pink blazers with black and white. Good effort, but you need to switch it up!

I remember in 2018, when I had a collaboration shoot with the multiple award winning actor “Timini Egbuson”. The plan was to create different looks of him wearing pink and as I searched the internet for inspiration, I discovered that the resources on the topic were very limited- mostly Pink blazers styled with the same white shirt and black trousers. So I decided to let my imagination run wild and the end result was 4 killer Pink looks for men (Pink is for men ). After the shoot I decided that there should be more ways to styling a pink jacket than even those 4 I created (and added to many of you’s google search history- you’re welcome!). So I took it day by day and now, I present to you my 20 go to Pink looks for every personality.

Before I show you these fire looks, I want to share my 4C approach to these 20 looks. Remember, the key thing here is to let you imagination run free. There are colours, abstracts, prints and flowers everywhere. Let them influence your style.

 Now here are my 4Cs.

Conservative: This is for beginners. Think of it as your induction into the world of pink. You’re playing it safe, still too scared to push the envelope and that’s okay. If you’re in this category, you have two options- going monochrome or styling with neutral colors. If you choose the former, you can either go a lighter or darker shade of pink but you will have to wear pink all through. On the neutral ground, this is where the black, white and greys come in. Personally a little boring for me but a good place to start for many.

Complements: This is for those who are already stepping out of their comfort zone. The men who want to turn a few heads. My tip for you when you’re striking is to look out for colors that are on the same spectrum of pink or closer to pink like red, lavend, purple etc.. You can’t go wrong.

Contrast: At this stage you’ve mastered the art, you’ve tasted pink and there’s no going back! This man says, I’m cozy with who I am. If this is you, I stan! My tip is to start looking outside  the spectrum into colors that contrast but complement pink. You want to do combinations of muted colors and other colors. All you need is a connection with what you’re wearing underneath that contrasts against  your suit.

For example in the pictures, my connection underneath was the black lines on my grey checkered  trousers and my black shirt and I used that to contrast my pink jacket.

And with the picture above, I paired the white stripes on my blue shirt to contrast my pink jacket.

Color Blocking : This is pro max level- the oga of them all! This says ‘Su mo mi je ki’n ba e soro’ (come close let me talk to you) and it will have your crush going crazy! The tip here is to combine different colors without caring if they’re related or not. Doesn’t matter if you’ve seen it somewhere before or now. It boss level doings. This is what differentiates the  fashion icons and trendsetters from the regular guys. The concept of color blocking is to match different unrelated colors to give you a look.

Although there’s a very thin line between looking pleasant and looking like a clown with color blocking, you just have to know the difference between your apple as and your oranges!

With these few points of mine, I hope I have been able to convince you that real men wear Pink. And if you’re a black man, it’s an extra point!
