Something Happened Today That Shocked Me …. How Did We Get Here?

Some things just don’t make sense. Imagine Wizkid now has a son sharing the limelight with him. We all watched Wizkid break into the scene as a young boy, and now you’re telling me he’s the father of champs?

Just like that, my baby sister turned 30 today.

Thirty. The age of grown adults with names like Aunty Yemisi, Aunty Bose, Uncle Gbenga, Uncle Albert….. All my life, I’ve never met a young person with those names.

Oh wait : Tolu is now someone’s mum too. Ha! Mogbe 🙆🏾‍♂️ Agbatide!

Maybe we’re not that young again, or maybe I’m just tripping.

Tolu and I have been riding for a long time. From our days representing church and school for debate and quiz competitions, to starting small businesses, to selling my show tickets in Unilag, to presenting eulogies at our exhibitions in London. Tolu has always been there. Lagos, Birmingham, London… the memories are plenty. Everyone needs a sister like Tolu: determined, dogged, and a lover of Christ.

Happy birthday to my sister. It’s been fun witnessing your journey of becoming, from the blurry baby memories, to a young girl, daughter, student, nurse, wife, mother. You’ve carried every season with grace, kindness, consistency, care, and that big smile. You make us proud all the time.

I pray this new age brings you peace and a reward for all your work. I pray God gives you strength to deal with the cracking bones of the 30s.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?
