My name comes from Nigeria, from the Yoruba people where names are never random. They carry weight, history, and intention. In Yoruba culture, a name is often a prayer or a prophecy spoken over a child.
Mine is Adebowale — which means “the crown has come home.” It was given to me by my parents as a declaration of identity, a reminder of royalty and responsibility. Every time it is spoken, it connects me back to my roots, to my heritage, and to the belief that who I am is bigger than just me.
So when you ask me where my name comes from, it comes from more than language. It comes from legacy. It comes from the hope of a family and the culture of a people who believe that words shape destiny.
Where did your name come from?
