Overthinkers, come forward, Let’s be real: most times, we take our thoughts too seriously. We believe every negative thing we think like it’s gospel truth. But guess what? Your thoughts are not always true. The different scenarios you keep playing in your head, they’re not reality. And constantly doing that shouldn’t be a badge of honour.
Overthinking often traps you in cognitive fusion, where you treat your thoughts like facts. You start identifying with them, like “I had the thought, so it must be true.” That’s why overthinking feels so heavy, you’ve tied your sense of self to whatever your mind spits out.
Yes, you might say, “90% of the time, what I think ends up happening,” or quote “as a man thinks, so he is.” And there’s truth in that, what you focus on tends to magnify. Your brain doesn’t always know the difference between imagination and reality. That’s why if you keep fixating on the worst, you’ll start living like it’s already true.
But here’s the shift: not everything your brain tells you is worth your energy. Some things don’t happen because you thought them into existence, they happen despite your thinking. And when they don’t, your brain still tricks you into believing they did. That’s the illusion.
So take off that overthinking shoe. Refocus your mind on things that are true, helpful, and grounded. Choose thoughts that feed peace, not panic.
Live in the moment a little more. Laugh, rest, breathe. Life is happening right now, don’t miss it over what might go wrong.
