Day5 : Pastel For men

Pastel colours are for girls and  muted colours are for boys. That was the unspoken rule when we were kids and many people carried it on to adulthood, especially men. Most men are too afraid to add a pastel piece to their wardrobe for fear of looking ‘too feminine’ or ‘too fashionable’ and so I bet some of you are freaking out at the idea of wearing one.

The good news
is, times are changing. It’s no secret that the way in which we dress has
irrevocably shifted. There was a recent article by  British GQ on a
paradigm shift in Men’s SS22 collection and fashion runway show, about it’s
acceptance of pastel colours for men.

In recent
times we’ve also seen how top male celebrities have accepted the idea of pastel
and how bold and confident they look in them. I feel you shouldn’t be caught
sleeping on the bicycle, it’s time to get out of the box and stop believing
that pastel is feminine.

Over the
years, I have become a fan of pastel colours because of the energy they
radiate despite their softness and how they fill up the room with brightness
and hope. With my years of experience as a creative director for a men’s clothing
brand, I have  realised that a greater percentage of men do not mind
trying out these colours but the question is how will they pull it off?

If they wear
it once will they be able to wear it another time due to the limited ideas they
have about styling pastel. We all know how easy it is to style muted colours
because it has always been in our eyes from birth. I am a big fan of getting
total value for your money and purchasing a piece that is  reusable. The interesting thing is you can spice up your wardrobe with pastels and have varieties from African designs to
contemporary western outfits.

For this post I will be showing you different ways, I’ve been able to style tones, which gives you more options when thinking pastels. The good thing about pastel colour is that the principle is the same when styling other colours of the spectrum.
